That God was being dramatic when He said disobedience is as bad as witchcraft or as it’s stated in the amplified version,
““For rebellion is as [serious as] the sin of divination (fortune-telling), And disobedience is as [serious as] false religion and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you as king.””
1 Samuel 15:23 AMP
That was until God called me out.
Lol.
Say for example, I get to work everyday and the first thing I do when I put my bag down is grab a cup of coffee.
Then when day, as I get to work,He says to me,while im on the escalators, dont drink coffee today until 12pm.
Mind you, thats usually when I get up to make my second if not third cup.
And then. “
Let’s just say, it gets too difficult and at 11:30 I get up to make my first cup.
To everyone else in the office, what I’m doing is very normal, I’m just getting coffee, nothing illegal there.
Buuuut, I know the conversation I had with had with God and I know what He said ,even though I have no idea why He said that.
I chose the temporary comfort of coffee over the temporary discomfort of craving caffeine in the last 30 minutes of the challenge or instruction.
Obviously my real life example is a lot deeper but the above example explains it clearly.
Disobedience is much like witchcraft, I agree with God.
Because, in both instances theres an inherent deisire to control the situation or outcome ,by any means necessary.
Then God also says, heyy, keep your money, just obey me.
In fact, He started with that because thats what He said in the verse above ,see:
“Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obedience to the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed [is better] than the fat of rams.”
1 Samuel 15:22 AMP
Jesus reiterates this in the New Testament and basically says that Gods love language is not words of affirmation or gifts, its obedience.
““If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.”
John 14:15 AMP
