What Lent has and continues to teach me is that words are a reflection of what’s going on in your heart.
Jesus says, Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
Luke 6:45 ESV
[45] The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
.
And we have a tendency to blame the moment, “oh, I was angry”, or, “oh I was triggered ” which might be true to a certain extent.
But ultimately it boils down to the things you think about /meditate on.
If you don’t think vile thoughts about someone, you won’t have anything vile to say to them or about them, even in moments of extreme anger.
So basically I’m the problem 🙂but there is a solution.
A simple prayer, quoting directly from psalm 19:14
Psalm 19:14 ESV
[14] Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
If your thoughts and meditations are pleasing to God, daily, you will never be caught slipping.
Paul puts it perfectly, in Philippians 4:8 [8] Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
May God help us.
Personally, so far so good.
But I guess the true test awaits after Lent.
Grace and Peace
