Day 1 of 10:
Matthew 6:33 AMP
[33] But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.
The word seek has underlying tones of intentionally.
It is only when you lose something of value that you will search high and low for it until you find it.
The Greek definition of seek used here means seek with the intention of finding.
God is obviously not lost, but more on that tomorrow.
The word “seek” in Hebrew in Strong’s Concordance means “to search out by any method.”
So, we must seek God deeply, thoroughly and wholeheartedly.
We must echo the sentiments of David in Psalm 42
Psalms 42:1 AMP
[1] As the deer pants [longingly] for the water brooks, So my soul pants [longingly] for You, O God.
Seek God like your life depends on it, because it does.
The verse above relates to the human tendency to worry about daily provisions.
All our concerns, be it career progress, health, family matters, whatever keeps you up at night can and will be resolved.
We have duty to ensure that these things do no consume us to the point where we no logner have time to seek God.
Two things that Jesus does tell us to seek, God’s kingdom and His righteousness.
What does that even mean though?
To seek God’s kingdom means to desire Hid will above our own, to pursue that which glorifies God and that which is in line with His Word.
His righteousness is essentially His mentality.
His character and way of doing things.
Seeking these things involves much prayer, biblestudy, introspection and frequent repentance.
Ironically, it is when we turn our eyes from desires and fix them on God that we ultimately get what we desired in the first place, if it was indeed God’s will.
One thing is for sure though, those who seek God’s face continually shall lack no good thing.
May God help us to seek Him above all things and may our lives reflect His character always, in all ways.
Amen
